Workforce development programme

I had applied to the NHS Clinical entrepreneur programme with an innovation for a workforce development programme related to ADHD, but unfortunately did not get selected in 2022-23. Nevertheless I think this is a worthwhile cause. Please see my other Blog on Parliamentary debate.

In recent years the demand for diagnostic assessments of adult ADHD has grown considerably. The quality of an assessment and subsequent report depends primarily on the knowledge and skills of the assessor rather than the selection of tests used. Patients have Right to choose to be diagnosed in a CCG-funded clinic, but for medication they need to go to their local clinic. Unfortunately they then have to wait on another list to undergo a repeat assessment. I want to create an accreditation pathway for a professional qualification which will allow their assessments to be “trusted” and not need repeating. Eligible clinicians are specialist doctors and senior allied health professionals (at Band 8+) who have attended courses organised by the UK Adult ADHD network (UKAAN), practical work experience, supervision by an experienced ADHD diagnostician, peer group supervision, and Continuous Professional Development (CPD). As professionals have completed different programmes of study, an Accreditation of Prior Learning will allow them to claim credit for previous learning. In order to fill gaps in training, supervision and support will be given on autism, on psychopathology and on the diagnostic process. Supervisors will be determined by the number of assessments they have carried out not on seniority.
